You can use your kitchen tiles outside if the tiles can withstand outdoor conditions such as heat, sun, rain, snow, etc. There are kitchen tiles that you cannot use outside like granite, but there are some types you can use outside like quarry and porcelain.

Can I Use Porcelain Tiles Outside?
There are different types of materials for kitchen tiles you can use outside, porcelain is a great example of one of them! Porcelain is easily cleaned and is also “frost-proof” for those snowy regions (we know how cold it can get)!
Porcelain comes in different designs and colors so you can create a masterpiece in your backyard or garden without worrying about the wear and tear of the outdoor tile. Check the type of finish on porcelain tiles (look for a matt finish) and an anti-slip tile (just in case the rain turns into ice, we don’t want you slipping over anything!).
Can I Use Ceramic Tiles Outside
Ceramic tiles are a great option to use in your outdoor patio as long as the ceramic tile is strong enough to be used on the floor (if you plan on using your kitchen tiles as floor tiles outside to build your outdoor kitchen). Check the ceramic tile’s PEI rating to confirm that they are strong enough to be outside.
Most ceramic tiles are water resistant, however the tiles will absorb some water due to its porous nature. Depending on the absorption levels of water and porosity of your ceramic tile, ceramic tiles may or may not be frost-proof.
The tile must pass the following tests: EN 202, ISO 10545-12, and ASTM C1026, check with your manufacturer to confirm your tile has passed all three to be considered frost-proof. Ceramic tiles’ colors are sun-proof, so there’s no worry of damaging your tiles from the sun outside for you warm-climate lovers!

Can I Use Limestone Tiles Outside
Limestone is a great choice for using outside if you’re located in a dry climate. Limestone needs to be regularly sealed/re-sealed (similar to granite) and can be damaged easily. Limestone comes in a variety of colors and can bring to life the patio of your dreams.
It can also bring out consistency between your kitchen and backyard or back patio! Avoid using limestone outside if you experience some cold and snowy winters. When in doubt check with the tile’s manufacturer to confirm how often the limestone needs to be re-sealed and its wear and tear in different weather conditions.
Can I Use Quarry Tiles Outside
Quarry tiles are a great tile to use outside. These tiles typically are water resistant and are not super slippery if it rains. However quarry tiles are not a good idea if you’re located in an area where the temperatures drop drastically (think like Chicago).
Make sure to check with your tile’s manufacturer if your quarry tiles can withstand your area’s weather conditions. If you plan to use the quarry tiles, note they don’t come in a variety of colors. Quarry is typically available in grey, red, or brown, so plan your patio design accordingly!
Kitchen tiles you can’t use outside
Granite
Granite shouldn’t be used for outdoor tiling. Granite is porous so it’s subject to water and can be very slippery depending on its finish. Though it looks beautiful outside, it’ll require some heavy duty maintenance by re-sealing it every so often to avoid any water or stain damages.
Check with your manufacturer to confirm how often it should be resealed if you plan on using granite outdoors.
