In this post, we’ll be going over various methods on how to quickly and easily cleanup coffee stains on your quartz countertop.
How to remove coffee stain from quartz countertop
Coffee stains can be removed in most cases. Generally, the sooner a coffee spill is cleaned up, the less likely it is to cause a stain. Coffee is strong and has dark pigment compounds that can cause stains, especially if left.
We go over how to clean and remove even the toughest coffee stains.
Most people will at some point spill coffee on their quartz countertop. Coffee is a strong dark drink that is well-known to stain clothes and other materials. With quartz, coffee stains can be removed, but different cleaning methods may be required to remove these stubborn stains.
What Cleaners Can I Use on Quartz Countertops?
Warm soapy water
If the coffee stain is new and hasn’t settled deeply into your quartz countertop, we recommend trying the gentlest cleaning method, warm soapy water. Simply mix bleach and fragrance-free gentle soap with some warm water, wet a soft clean cloth, and gently scrub the stain. Then, rinse with clean water.
Baking soda and warm water
If warm soapy water doesn’t work, these simple household staples can safely remove a lot of stains, including stains from coffee. Simply mix three parts baking soda to one part water, which will make a thick mixture, soak up plenty on a soft clean cloth, and scrub the stain gently.
Baking soda is a gentle abrasive which is great for safely removing stains. Wash away the residue with clean water. If it’s a particularly tough stain, you can leave the thick mixture to sit on the stain for 10-15 mins before scrubbing. This will help lift more of the staining.
Rubbing alcohol
If the other methods fail, try using rubbing alcohol to clean and remove the coffee stains from your quartz countertop. Rubbing alcohol is strong, safe, and effective for removing stains and bacteria. All you need to do is get a damp, soft, clean cloth, and dip it in some of the rubbing alcohol.
Next, wipe down and gently scrub the stained area for about 15 seconds. Then, with another damp clean cloth with only water on it, wipe the area clean.
Does coffee stain white quartz easier?
No, it does not stain white quartz easier, but the contrast of dark liquid from the coffee on the white surface makes coffee stains show up more. The dark pigments in coffee can interact with the resin in the quartz and cause prominent stains.
White quartz is no different from dark quartz in the materials used and doesn’t stain easier than dark colour quartz. But, the dark pigments in coffee and other liquids like red wine can stain the resin in quartz and, because of the contrast, will show more prominently than they would on dark quartz.
Does cleaning the coffee stain straightaway make a difference?
Coffee spills are less likely to stain quartz if it’s cleaned up right away. Although quartz is stain resistant, strong compounds and chemicals such as those from coffee can still cause stains. On a fresh spill, use a damp clean cloth to wipe up. Use a stronger cleaning method for spills left.
The sooner you can clean up spilt coffee, the less likely it is to create a difficult to remove or permanently stain. Although quartz is naturally stain resistant, strong compounds and chemicals can still stain it, especially if left. We recommend wiping up any spilt coffee as soon as it happens with a damp clean cloth.
If cleaned right away, the spill should not become a stain. If left for a while but not more than a day, try the soapy water method we outlined above.
