Does Febreze Kill Insects? Everything You Need to Know

Yes, Febreze does kill insects. The active odor eliminating ingredient hydroxypropyl beta-cyclodextrin along with other chemicals are highly toxic to insects. This makes Febreze a good option for quick elimination of many household pests.

However, Febreze may not be the most effective extermination method for all bugs.

What makes Febreze deadly for insects?

There are many chemicals in Febreze that are toxic to insects. Limonene destroys the protective layer of wax that some insects have which results in death. Ethyl acetate is another chemical found in fragrances such as Febreze that is toxic to a bug’s respiratory system, also resulting in death.

These, among other chemicals, are also found in products marketed as insecticides.

Keep in mind it’s not an insect repellent, Febreze is not designed to keep insects out. It will kill them and get rid of strong bad odors but not keep them out.

While Febreze can be an effective household solution for pests, insecticides are much more potent which can lead to better results.

Does febreze kill spiders?

Spiders usually settle within dark areas of the house as well as corners. Take your bottle of febreze and spray around all these areas.
