What Items Can I Put on My Laminate Countertop?

Can you put hot pans on laminate countertops?

No, you cannot put hot pans on laminate countertops. Laminate countertops will melt at 275 degrees Fahrenheit and putting a hot pan on a laminate countertop will cause irreversible damage to your laminate’s surface.

One of the downsides to laminate countertops is that they do not handle heat well. With a melting point of 275 degrees, there are several items in the kitchen that can damage laminate.

If you do need to set a hot pan or pot on your counter, reach for a trivet mat or, in a pinch, a set of potholders to place under your hot item. This will protect your laminate countertop for a short amount of time if you need to place your hot pan somewhere.

A good rule of thumb is to place trivets in strategic places around your kitchen, so you never have to try to pull one out of a drawer when you need it most.

Can you put a cooktop on laminate countertops?

Yes, you can put a cooktop on laminate countertops, but it needs to be raised and can’t emit heat directly to the countertop. Use extreme caution.

Make sure that any cooktops you use on your laminate counter have raised legs and don’t get too hot underneath. If in doubt, do a test run, turning the cooktop on and putting a thermometer under it to see how hot it gets on the bottom.

If it nears 275 degrees, you might consider putting the cooktop on top of something to protect your counters from the heat.

Another thing to be aware of is that cooktops can also splash hot oil, and you should wipe up any splashes immediately. These oil splashes can melt and discolor laminate countertops.

Which Cleaners Can be Used on Laminate Countertops?

Can you put an air fryer on a laminate countertop?

Yes, you can put an air fryer on a laminate countertop. Even though air fryers are designed to reach temperatures of over 400 degrees Fahrenheit, they are designed to keep the hot air inside the unit, and any hot air that escapes is circulated through the back of the air fryer.

The rubber legs on the air fryer keep it a high enough distance from the counter, so you don’t need to worry about your countertop getting above 275 degrees underneath the air fryer. However, you should ensure that the air fryer has enough clearance between the wall and the ventilation.

One thing to pay attention to is not to set the air fryer basket on the laminate countertop, as the basket itself could get hot enough to melt the laminate surface.

Can you put a coffee maker on a laminate countertop?

Yes, you can absolutely put a coffee maker on a laminate countertop. Coffee makers don’t get hot enough to melt the laminate surface, so putting a coffee maker on a laminate countertop is a safe bet.

One thing you’ll want to watch out for is placing the hot coffee carafe on the countertop. The bottoms of these carafes can reach higher temperatures and may discolor laminate surfaces.

Another thing to pay attention to is allowing any coffee to get spilled on light-colored laminate surfaces. The acidic coffee can stain light laminates and should be wiped up quickly to prevent any damage or discoloration.

Do You Glue Down Laminate Countertops?

Can you put a microwave on a laminate countertop?

Yes, you can definitely put a microwave on a laminate countertop. Microwaves don’t give off enough heat to damage laminate surfaces, and laminate surfaces won’t be damaged by the microwaves either.

The main thing to take caution against is setting hot, microwave-cooked foods on the laminate. While most foods cooked in the microwave won’t reach temperatures of 275 Fahrenheit, there might be some rare situations in which you will want to exercise caution.

For foods that have spent a lot of time in the microwave or that are visibly boiling, set something underneath them before putting them on the laminate. A metal or wooden trivet works excellent, so keep one nearby for any hot foods that might come out of the microwave.

Can you put a toaster oven on a laminate countertop?

Yes, toaster ovens are safe to put on laminate countertops. While toaster ovens can get hot enough inside to melt laminate countertops, with the proper airflow and raised rubber feet, the bottom of a toaster oven should never get hot enough to damage laminate countertops.

When cooking in a toaster oven, make sure that you don’t place the hot pan on the laminate counter. If the pan is hotter than 275 degrees – which most baking temperatures call for – you will melt or even burn the laminate surface.

Try putting a raised trivet near your toaster oven so you can quickly grab it to put under and hot pans you have removed from the oven.
