What to Do With Old Marble Countertops – 11 Cool Ideas

In this post, I’ll be going over what to do with an old marble countertop and how to use marble scraps. I’ll be going over how to repurpose marble countertops and what to do with an old slab.

Let’s get straight into it!

1. Fashion Marble Bookends

A great idea for using extra slabs of marble is to create marble bookends. Creating a different shape and size of each bookend will elevate your home with polish and keep your books in order.

Also if you have already used the marble in another part of the house, these marble bookends will help create consistency throughout your home.

2. Create Extra Shelves

When do you need extra space in your homes to help store things or extra shelf space? The answer for us is always! We always find ourselves running out of room in our house, so using the extra marble slab as an extra shelf is a great way to create more space.

These marble shelves can be put in the kitchen, bathroom, or even living room for an elegant style and additional storage space!

3. Install a Backsplash

Backsplashes are all the trend if you want to add a bit of flair and pop in your home. With a backsplash you can elevate the space with more design and sophistication by using the rough jagged edges and styling it to your liking.

Put the backsplash above a bathroom sink or in the kitchen, the possibilities are endless!

4. Create a Cutting Board

If you recently redesigned your countertops or have spare marble slabs laying around, creating a cutting board is a great use of marble. Not only will the cutting board match your countertops but it will not damage the countertops while you are cooking some of your most scrumptious meals and making memories.

The best part is the cutting board can be any size you want it to be, allowing you to use any size of a marble slab. You can also add a piece of wood to the cutting board to add more space and invent a neat design you will love!

5. Create Coasters

Creating coasters from extra pieces of marble is a fantastic way to bring the same style of elegance and class to your next dinner party. With easy to use paints (like chalk paints) and classic colors like gold and silver, all you need is a paint brush and a favorite design for your coaster to come out perfectly.

6. Spruce up your favorite Fireplace Mantle

No matter how many pieces of marble you have at your disposal, it’s easy to create an accent piece to go above your mantle or outline the marble around the fireplace mantle, giving the space a sense of finesse.

With the extra marble for your fireplace mantle, not only will your house show cohesion but your living room will bring about another level of sophistication and elegance!

7. Adorn a Marble Slab over the Washing Machine

If you find yourself constantly in the laundry room (we know we do), then putting a marble slab over the washing machine is a great idea. This gives you an extra shelf of space to start folding those freshly clean clothes or make room for the dirty ones that still need to be washed (if you constantly ask yourself how you got so many clothes, you’re our people).

8. Create a Custom Design Piece Perfect for Your Home

Whether you want to have an empty wall you’ve been trying to fill or you want to swap out some decor with the seasons changing, creating a custom design piece out of marble is the perfect addition.

The best part about creating one is you’re able to choose the exact design you want to complement your home! Whether it’s a custom marble frame or an abstract piece, that custom marble design is a perfect addition to any home.

9. Build a small table

Building a small table for outside or inside the home is a great use of the extra slabs of marble. With a few tools and a few marble slabs (depending on what size you want), this table can become the epic centerpiece of class to any room. Not to mention buying a marble table would cost a fortune (you can even build one and sell it if you are so inclined!).

10. Stacked Marble Fountain

While finding a purpose for extra marble slabs may be difficult, it’s not difficult to construct a stacked marble fountain. The best part about this project is that the marble slabs will need to be different sizes, so many times you may not even need to cut the marble (depending on your materials).

All you will have to do is find the perfect marble slabs and stack them on top of each other to create a look of relaxation and peace to bring to your home.

11. Make the Perfect Cheese Board

While a cutting board is great to fashion out of extra marble slabs, a cheese board provides a sense of charm and polish the next time you are entertaining friends.

With simply adding two handles to an extra slab of marble (or no handles, depending on what you prefer), you can fashion a cheese board easily! The best part is you don’t need to use this cheese board just for cheese either.
