Are Bosch Washing Machines Good? Review

Yes, Bosch washing machines are reliable. Variables always exist and considerations in determining reliability and measuring it determine the overall reliability.

Bosch washing machines certainly have their strengths as well as a few weaknesses. Quality and efficiency are the main reasons for comparative shopping, and Bosch washing machines are in line with their counterparts, and a certain amount of reliability is expected and ultimately achieved.

How long does a Bosch washing machine last?

With proper care and maintenance, a Bosch washing machine should last 10 – 13 years. The actual life cycle of a washing machine is determined according to a few variables.

An estimated life cycle of a washing machine consists of 5000 loads, so if the amount of laundry washed is less it could conceivably last longer. Bosch being among the leading washing machine brands is in the ten-year range.

All Bosch appliances come with a two-year manufacturer’s warranty as a standard. This warranty is for manufacturing and material faults failures or defects that fall within the 2-year time period from the time of purchase.

Energy rating

Energy ratings are measurements of how much energy is used, and how much water is consumed. The energy rating is a set of standards set up by the industry that must be upheld in order to receive the certification. These machines are called Energy Stars.

The Bosch 500 series has been awarded the highest Energy Star rating in 2022.

Star-rated washing machines are models that have earned a certification that says this particular machine is more efficient than another of the same size and model.

On some Bosch machines, there is a feature called the EcoBar, this feature offers a way to see what the energy consumption level will be when you choose the wash program.

One idea to be presented when it comes to energy savings is to get a machine that has a higher RPM  during the spin cycle. 1600 RPM machines will get more water out of your clothes and need less drying, therefore possibly using less energy overall. And if you are air drying your clothes of course the dryer the better when it comes out of the washer.

Included features

  • Anti-Vibration Designs – A contoured design on the body that dampens sound, and shock absorbers for a more stable run through the cycles, creating a quieter washing experience.
  • i-DOS – i-Dos is available on some Bosch models. This feature evaluates the amount of soil on your clothes, plus the hardness of the water, and gives a perfect dose of detergent to handle it. Water hardness affects the amount of detergent needed. Too much or not enough is not a problem anymore.
  • Speed Perfect – reduce wash cycle time by up to 65%.
  • Reload function –  The reload function gives you a way to pause the cycle of your front-loading machine. The entire door opens making it possible to add larger items. All Bosch machines in the latest series have the Reload feature.
  • Eco-Silence Drive – On the latest series of machines, the Logixx series machine has a brushless motor which creates less friction while it’s running and inevitably less noise. Quieter and more efficient is the motive behind this design.
  • Home Connect – Home Connect is an app that allows you to control your washing machine remotely. The models that have this app give you command control from your phone or tablet.
  • XxtraSanitary technology – A feature that raises the temperature of the water to levels high enough to kill viruses and bacteria.
  • LoadSensor technology – The load sensor technology senses how much laundry you have put into the machine and calculates the water and detergent amounts it considers necessary. Using lease water and detergent save water and money.
  • ActiveWater Plus – Special sensors will detect and calculate the water needs for the amount of laundry you are putting into the machine, and automatically adjust it.
  • VarioPerfect programs – You have the choice to save time or energy, with a customizable program. Setting the wash time can save you energy. Time and energy savings to meet your needs.
  • SuperQuick and PowerWash – Super Quick 15 washes once, and spins twice in only 15 minutes handling a capacity of up to 2 kg of laundry.
  • AllergyPlus – This feature raises the temperature of the water to a higher level to remove allergens, and pollen and a two-rinse cycle to take care of any pet hair and to make sure that there isn’t any detergent left in your clothes that might irritate your skin
  • Night Wash – An even quieter mode for running at night.

Styles

Choosing the right style of washing machine to fit the size of your home as well as meet your washing needs is a good place to start when thinking about purchasing a new clothes washing machine. Aside from a multitude of features, there is a range of styles that you can choose from.

Front Loading – Front loading machines are considered to be a better style of machine for getting your clothes clean. They have many advantages over the top loading washing machines, however, also come with their own set of challenges.

Top Loading – Top-loading machines are loaded from the top of the washing machine. This type of machine has its benefits when loading as well as other possible benefits, one of which is they tend to move through the wash cycles quicker.

Free Standing  – Free-standing machines can be placed in any room that has the space, and the proper water and electrical hookups. Often accompanied by a dryer beside it or with the right compatibility the set could be stacked

Integrated – Integrated machines are designed to be built in a cabinet space. Under a cabinet or in a space with a door, or the built-under models that slide under your countertop or worktop.

Clothing volume

The size of the machine will dictate to a certain point how much laundry you can efficiently wash at one time. Overcrowding a machine causes the machine to work harder, use more energy, and has the potential to not clean your clothes properly.

When thinking about family-size machines or machines that will accommodate multiple people, capacity is important. There are several sizes to choose from.

  • For 3-4 people the 8kg washing machine or the 9 kg washing machine would probably be your best choice.
  • For 5 or more people a 10 kg capacity would better suit your needs.

Figuring out how many loads and the weight of your clothes will help determine the capacity of the machine you would need to effectively and efficiently clean your laundry.

What do customers say about Bosch washing machines?

Customers have mixed reviews when talking about Bosch washing machines.

The reviews are leaning towards the “never buy Bosch” side of things.

Customer service issues and parts issues seem to be a driver in these reviews and are one of the major review complaints. Also, the longevity of the machines is in question as well.

Right alongside these reviews are the “excellent” and according to “expert” reviews stating that Bosch is a very reliable and sturdy washing machine with new and improved innovative technologies. Bosch may have had a slow start in catching up with the most recent features but seem to be working on that.

The overall rating is a bit more on the favorable side.

Overall Rating – 4 out 5 Stars

Price  – $600 – $1600 with a focus on front-loading machines, the top end is a bit on the expensive side

Styling – Different markets appreciate Boshes’ styling while other markets like a more traditional look. Sleeker European styling.

Warranty Ranking – 4 0ut of 5 Stars Two-year limited warranty doesn’t really give the highest level of confidence but is an industry-standard warranty.

Energy Efficiency –  Depends on the model but receives a 4 out of 5 Stars. The efficiency is built in if all the considerations of how to achieve the highest levels of energy efficiency and  water consumption are taken into consideration.

Overall Value Score according to one source 3 out of 5 stars, which is an average score.
