How to Remove Rust Stain From Quartz Countertop – Easy Guide

In this post, we’ll be going over how to remove rust stains from quartz countertops.

So let’s get straight into it.

How To Remove Rust Stain From Quartz Countertops

Use a white latex sponge eraser for removing rust stain from your quartz countertop. Gently rub the sponge on the quartz. After removing the rust, you must put in a cleaner solution. You can use a gentle cloth and soak it in a cleaning agent. You can also use oxalic acid when removing rust stains.

Leave the soaked cloth on the stained area and allow it to sit for 10 minutes. If you still notice a stain after 10 minutes, you can continue and keep the cloth for another few minutes.

It is best to avoid keeping it on for longer than 30 minutes. If there’s no more stain, you may now clean the countertop with warm water and gentle soap.

If you don’t have a magic eraser sponge, use this method…

You can remove rust stain from a quartz countertop with baking soda & lemon juice. Place the baking soda on the rust stain, add a few drops of freshly squeezed lemon juice to make the baking soda bubble. Let it sit for 20 minutes & then scrub the stain off with a cloth.

Why Does Quartz Rust?

Quartz countertop is made of natural stone and has effects similar to granite. However, the resins and other synthetic components build unique properties different from granite.

The resins make quartz countertops suitable. But they can also get damaged by abrasive chemicals, cleaners products and heat.

A regular stain occurs due to some substance absorption which in turn creates dark spots. Quartz countertop stains occur due to the chemical effect of resins used to make the worktop. Such cleaners, chemicals, food or drink (especially tea) can discolour the resins.

White quartz countertops are most at risk of stains from food. But, chemicals or cleaners can damage all quartz colours.

Understanding Quartz Countertops

Quartz countertops are synthetic, engineered stones. These stones blend 90 per cent quartz and 10 per cent polymers, resins and pigments. Quartz is known as one of the richest materials in the earth’s crust.

Cleaning Quartz Countertops

When choosing a quartz countertop, time investment on cleaning is required. It would be best if you kept your quartz worktops clean and hygienic as much as possible. To clean your counters, wipe them with mild soap and water.

Apart from that, you can also use a water solution or rubbing alcohol. Avoid using harsh cloth when brushing quartz. Non-tough clothes are the best to use to prevent dull surfaces.

How To Remove Water Stains

Water stains typically appear when hard water builds up and creates a dull grey film. To get rid of water stains appearing on quartz, use an effective hard water cleaner.

Care Guides

When cleaning quartz countertops, we recommend avoiding harsh products. These products include sodium hydroxide, oven cleaners, paint strippers and any high pH products.

We also recommend not to use acids CLR Calcium, hydrofluoric acid, lime-away or any acid that are low in pH.

Abrasive cleaning products are harmful, which you should avoid as much as possible. But if you’re choosing to use products such as Acetone or Bleach, we suggest you only use it in moderation.

Dilute these cleaners before applying them to the countertop. Never allow the bleach nor acetone to sit on your countertop for so long. It is essential to always rinse your countertop well after cleaning. It would be best if you used only the Acetone on the spot.

A harsh cleaner may be necessary when removing stains. However, these abrasive cleaners may dull some brands of quartz.
